Abstract

This chapter reviews and discusses the scientific and clinical evidence base for the management of the vital dentine-pulp complex in permanent teeth that has been affected by a deep carious lesion, trauma or iatrogenic damage, using indirect and direct pulp capping/protection. It describes the potential advantages and disadvantages of different bioactive/bio-interactive materials and their effects on the dentine-pulp complex tissues. The clinical procedures used in indirect and direct pulp capping are also outlined.
