Abstract

A blog post for the British Library Asian and African Studies Blog, on their comprehensive collection of treatises on Hindustani music produced during the lifetime of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb 'Alamgir (1618–1707). It accompanies the podcast “The Maestro: Remembering Khushhal Khan Gunasamudra in Eighteenth-Century Delhi”, the second of six lectures and conversations I presented at the British Library in 2018 as part of my British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship “Histories of the Ephemeral: Writing on Music in Late Mughal India”.
