Abstract

The authors regret to report that it has been bought to their attention by Dr. Beth Borowski, Director of Translational Medicine at CHDI Foundation, that the terminology used to describe cytokines in the manuscript requires clarification. The authors wish to clarify that the cytokine levels from stimulated peripheral blood monocytes were measured in the course of these experiments and not plasma cytokine levels. The scientific content and methodology used is as described and the conclusions drawn from these experiments stand, however the use of the term ‘plasma cytokines’ in the manuscript causes some confusion to readers and may be misleading and should be replaced in all instances with ‘cytokines from stimulated peripheral blood monocytes’. The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
