Abstract
This chapter explores the work that goes into doing feminist activism in the digital economy and sheds light on the highly affective nature of feminist activist labor. Based on thirty qualitative in-depth interviews with feminist activists based in Germany and the United Kingdom (UK), the chapter highlights the different forms of work involved in doing feminism online, which range from researching and producing content to staying connected with the online feminist community. Doing feminist activism online is time-consuming and also affect-laden, involving the highs of engaging with like-minded people, but also the lows of dealing with trolls and the fear of getting it wrong. By exploring digital feminist labor, this chapter makes visible often unseen forms of work, thus adding to our understanding of the conditions that shape contemporary modes of feminists speaking up.
