Abstract

It is now well recognised that there are high concentrations of dependent drug users and injecting drug users in both male and female prisons in the UK, with there being higher rates of self-reported opiate dependence among the female prisoner population than in male prisoner populations (Advisory Councilon the Misuse of Drugs, 1996).
