Abstract
This evaluative study was commissioned to assess the impact of interventions implemented within 3 local authority test sites to improve uptake of self-directed support (SDS). The study, which lasted 2 years, used a mix of methods to involve and
consult service users, carers, social care professionals and representatives of various national organisations. While care should be taken in generalising the findings to other areas, our literature review clarified that many of the issues and challenges that emerged were similar to, and reflect challenges other local authorities may encounter.
