Abstract

The chapter provides a short history of the term 'fantezi' in the music of the Turkish Republic, focusing particularly on those of Sadettin Kaynak, and contextualizing it in regional moves to formalize multi-section popular song (as in, for example, the Egyptian dawr), and broader postcolonial reverberations of the term 'fantasy'.
