Abstract

Is genomic counseling an extension of genetic counseling? We explore the different ways that genomic data might be delivered to patients; and discuss the skills that genetic counselors and clinical geneticists are already using to deliver results from sequencing technologies. As genomics is introduced into mainstream health services, genetic counselors need to be part of the conversation about the familial implications of genomic data as well as how to actually communicate this appropriately.
