Abstract

Early preventative strategies and possible treatment for individuals who are at high risk of developing an adverse outcome over a specific time is a main cornerstone of clinical research. From this perspective, we recently developed a risk score for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), known as the Global APS Score (GAPSS). GAPSS takes into account the combination of independent risk factors for thrombosis and pregnancy loss, computing together the antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) profile (criteria and noncriteria aPL), the conventional cardiovascular risk factors, and the autoimmune antibodies profile. Assessing the risk profile in patients with aPL is an unmet need, and recent evidence showed that GAPSS can be a useful tool to quantify the likelihood of developing APS-related clinical manifestations.
