Abstract

This snapshot examines the emergence of three nodes of military co-operation amongst European countries, namely the Nordic countries, Britain and France, and the Central European states. It argues that there are four key lessons Europeans need to learn as to how future co-operation can be undertaken to maximise its effectiveness. And it asserts that ways must be found to bridge the ‘three islands’, so that they do not drift off into their own directions, weakening European military power in the process.
