Abstract

This essay studies two main ways of seeing depicted in the popular Fin de Siècle illustrated Spanish American Magazine 'Caras y Caretas' : Political Likeness and what I call Enlightening Phantasmagoric Unveiling, linked to the visual technologies behind mass-produced portraits and caricature as well as to the Magic Lantern.
