Implementing extensions to IP routing for increasing throughput in Future Internet

Abstract

This paper outlines a research proposal to the WWRF on the implantation and benefit of Multi-Plane Routing (MPR). MPR leverages multiple parallel alternate topologies for routing traffic within an autonomous system. This solution applies to IP-based wired/wireless Internet and provides a solution for optimizing network resources and improving performance. The paper presents an extension to the widely used Network Simulator NS-2 and shows the gain in throughput and capability of coping with increasing traffic demand. We show a maximum gain of nearly 60% in total received throughput.
