INDIA AND MARITIME GOVERNANCE: The Indian Ocean Dynamic

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter examines India’s involvement in maritime governance in IOR and argues that it is shaped, first and foremost, by geopolitics. Of the three drivers of India’s interest in maritime governance, geopolitics, economic interest, and non-traditional security, geopolitics is undisputedly the most important one. India’s involvement in maritime governance is driven by the geopolitics of countering China in the Indian Ocean and establishing Indian leadership in the IOR.
