Abstract

This is the introductory chapter to a book that I co-edited. It positions Gramsci's writings in relation to existing debates within Geography and seeks to make clear the contribution of the edited collection within debates over space, nature and politics. The chapter reviews Gramsci's philosophy of praxis and, for the first time, introduces such work in a coherent fashion for a geographical audience. At the same time, the chapter reaches beyond the discipline to extend geographical debates to political theory, international relations theory and radical philosophy.
