Abstract

Although focused on Hollywood and the American film labour market, both Linda Seger's When Women Call the Shots and Marsha McCreadie's Women Screenwriters Today make a fundamental contribution to the understanding of the position of female screenwriters by giving voice to the experiences and opinions of the very women who have had success in the profession. Both consider the enduring question of whether there is something particular that women can bring to screenwriting and each comes to markedly different conclusions.
