Medication-related cardiac risks and sudden deaths among people receiving antipsychotics for schizophrenia

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Antipsychotics are known to be associated with minor cardiac problems but recently some have been directly implicated in sudden deaths among people with schizophrenia and have been withdrawn, or warnings issued on their use. Richard Gray reviews the clinical data on these drugs and the patient groups at greatest risk. He argues that greater attention on the part of mental health professionals to assessing and monitoring their patients' physical health would avoid preventable deaths in this already vulnerable group
