    Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), offer rationale for how DBT may be used to augment standard Family-based treatment (FBT) when treatment response is insufficient, particularly when affect dysregulation is part of the clinical picture, and present a model for how an integrated FBT-DBT approach is used in the clinical practice. DBT is a comprehensive outpatient treatment that was originally designed to target recurrent suicidal and self-injurious behaviors in adult women suffering from borderline personality disorder (BPD).
