Abstract

The social care sector has long-standing recruitment and retention problems. There is interest in attracting new pools of labour to this sector. This review considers the evidence in respect of whether people with criminal records, who may have discounted themselves
from applying for roles due to criminal record checking procedures or other factors or have encountered unfair prejudice, may help meet the needs of care users and themselves find social care work rewarding and welcoming.
