Abstract

This Long Post deals with the rise of military co-operation among the Central European powers, including Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia. This is known as the Central European Roundtable on Defence Co-operation, which emerged during 2011 in light of the impact of the financial crisis on the concerned states’ military budgets. The authors outline the history of these countries’ military co-operation, place it in a wider context, and then conclude by offering five different recommendations for the Roundtable to consider when it meets on 18th June 2012 to discuss further military collaboration.
