Performance evaluation of a parallel fractional adaptive single-user receiver in a dynamic environment

Abstract

This paper investigates the behavior of one particular near-far resistant detector, the parallel fractional adaptive detector, in a dynamic environment. This detector belongs to the general family of minimum mean squared error (MMSE) detectors. This receiver does not require information regarding the signature waveforms and timing of all users, except for the timing of the desired user, and it does not involve any form of amplitude or phase estimation. These facts further reduce the complexity of the receiver. The signature waveform of the desired user and the multiple access interference structure are "learned" adaptively due to the cyclostationarity statistics of the received signal. MMSE detectors have received a great deal of attention in the literature during the past few years. Despite this attention, there has been surprisingly little work which develops how MMSE detectors operate in a non-static environment. (11 References).
