Abstract

Researched and written during the 'revolutions' in Eastern Europe in 1989 the book examines the history and impact of the Polish Solidarity movement and democratic revolutions in Poland in 1989 in relation to gender equality and women. It includes feminist analyses of Polish culture and language, social structures and historical genealogies, literary analyses of Polish women's poetry and original qualitative interviews with 52 women in Poland in 1989 from textile workers, former members of Solidarity, Polish feminists, journalists, doctors, members of parliament and the owner of Poland's first sex shop.
