Abstract

With an introduction to set some context, this is an autobiographical piece by Simon Clements, an influential English teacher and HMI, who was co-author of the seminal English ‘text’ book Reflections (1963a). Through his own reflections, we see the importance of collaborations and personal and professional networks and how these were critical in the reshaping of the ‘new’ English through the 1960s and beyond.
