Abstract
I am very grateful to the four commentators for their thoughtful engagement with my recent book (hereinafter Shaping). Several of them offer sympathetic, accurate and elegant expositions of Shaping. My reply will focus on their objections and concerns, many of which move the discussion forward in significant ways.
Limitations of space prevent me from considering all the points they raise and I hope they’ll forgive me for concentrating on those I feel I can respond to most effectively.
