Abstract
The article offers a multidisciplinary approach to a multifactor process of land transformation and landscape modification in the island of San Andrés over the last sixty years, in the context of “Colombianization” policies. First, it describes the ways in which the environment is understood through the landscape and similar concepts. Secondly, it provides a historical overview, highlighting the main economic events that affected the distribution and meaning of land. Finally, it presents the results of ethnographic interviews on the issue of land use, in order to analyse their effects on the meaning and interaction with the landscape from the perspective of native landowners.
