Abstract

The application of psychological approaches to the control of epileptic seizures assumes that there is an interaction between the person with their environment (internal or external) which contributes to seizure occurrence. Models incorporating interactions between physiological and psychological factors are outlined here. A guide to the types of information about the person and their seizures that should be gathered prior to treatment is provided, in addition to a brief review of the various psychological interventions that might usefully be applied to an individual with otherwise poorly controlled seizures.
