N2 - The contemporary role of district nurses (DNs) is a central component of providing high-quality individualised care for people living at home, and it contributes to avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions. This short paper challenges DNs to respond proactively and constructively to shape care delivery closer to home in the 21st century. A brief outline of how district nursing has evolved within changing policy agendas over time and some current challenges and opportunities are highlighted.
