Abstract

This paper provides a formal description of one of the best known agent architectures (from the BDI tradition), dMARS. Although the BDI model is generally understood and had been widely studied, there was no clear formal specification of its operation, nor was there any approach that lent itself equally to description and engineering, an identified problem that this paper addresses. It is now the key reference for the dMARS system, and one of the key general BDI references.
