The PGCE: Studying and learning in Initial Teacher Education in England

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter will examine the Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) route. However, this is not possible in any meaningful way without some attention being paid to the context – of which the other nine alternatives form a part. It is also difficult, in this period of rapid change and development, to isolate significant developments from transient fads, so as to produce a considered and accurate view. Readers of this chapter, especially at some dis-tance in time from these events, should view this as if it were a news report from behind the front line – very much of its time
