Abstract

In 2004, the Royal Shakespeare Company produced a ground-breaking season of Spanish Golden Age plays in English which have pioneered a new approach to translating these works for the modern stage. The essays explore this process, and Boyle's essay explores the return of the plays to the original sites of production in terms of historicity, continuity, rupture, loss and discovery.
