Abstract

This whitepaper presents a system architecture for B3G networks. An overall reference model is presented and four functional areas found to be of key importance to B3G networks are discussed in more detail. The architecture presented here is the result of a joint activity of five large scale integrated projects executed in the 6th Framework Program of the European Commission. These projects have gathered under the umbrella of the Wireless World Initiative (WWI) to jointly develop a vision for B3G incorporating a future radio interface, a harmonized network control layer, an advanced service layer as well as required enablers and management functionalities for End-to-End reconfiguration across all layers.
