Abstract
Supporting virtual reality (VR) via cellular networks attracts increasing attention and is a promising use case in the 5G and 6G networks. to achieve this, it calls for a bandwidth-efficient video transmission protocol, where the tiled-based virtual reality video transmission with dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (tiled-DASH) is recommended by 3GPP. It introduces complicated system model crossing transmission and video processing subject areas. to investigate this, we build a tiled-DASH testbed with motion prediction, perform the traffic modeling, analyze the delay and bandwidth usage, and measure the performance of multiple prediction algorithms. The experimental results identify the trade-off among prediction horizontal, segment length, and bandwidth usage, which fails to be captured by literature.
