    Abstract

From e-Science to e-Humanities - Networked Science Arrives at the Arts and Humanities Networks of computing resources, knowledge, tools, and people are at the basis of the future scientific environment. e-Science combines concepts and technologies to make this possible. First emerged in the natural sciences, e-Science can be transferred to all disciplines and benefit from their integration, including the arts and humanities. The adoption of e-Science has only just begun; technologies, organisational structures and culture progress alternately towards the e-Science vision. This article exemplifies various application areas for e-Science in the arts and humanities, thereby making the e-Science vision more tangible. A focus on the project TextGrid (funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research). demonstrates, how the knowledge and the processes of a diverse community working with scientific texts can be brought together in a grid-enabled virtual research environment.
