N2 - The coalition formation process after the 2017 German national election turned out to be the most longsome in the history of the Federal Republic. After coalition talks failed between the CDU/CSU, FDP and Alliance 90/The Greens, the CDU/CSU and SPD were finally able to agree on another Grand Coalition. This research project surveyed up to 5,658 party officials of the CDU/CSU, SPD, FDP and Alliance 90/The Greens and 3,969 supporters of the CDU/CSU, SPD, AfD, FDP, The Left and Alliance 90/The Greens before and after the coalition negotiations of their parties on their political attitudes, intra-party processes, and coalition pref-erences. The article describes the sampling process and provides an overview of the most important results of the surveys. The panel data set on the German coalition negotiations is relevant for multiple research questions in party politics or opinion formation research – especially since the inclusion of the rank-and-file in intra-party decisions becomes more widespread.
