Abstract

In a higher education setting, research integrity (RI) is an integral part of the learning environment. While there is a list of RI principles that includes honesty, transparency, reproducibility, and accountability, there is less guidance on how to apply these principles in day-to-day academic life. This solution-focused short article provides information and suggestions to student researchers, early-career scientists, and principal investigators on how to implement and demonstrate RI values in realistic ways so that research is conducted at high standards, while fostering a conducive learning environment. The article explains RI, its significance, and some research-associated concerns, including characteristics of good and poor supervisory practices.
