Cycles of Influence is an investigation into the ways in which literature influences leadership, and the impact this has on society. The thesis proposes that literature plays an observable role in shaping leadership and, as a result can play an important role in the development of society. The “Cycle of Influence”, which lends this thesis its title, is the proposed theory through which this thesis intends to investigate the link between literature an leadership and has the potential to serve as the framework for future research. Key to this thesis’s investigation is the exploration of how literature has changed throughout history as literary technologies have developed. The investigation is carried out using a multiple case study module. Each case study explores the influence of literature following a major development in literary technology. The first case study focuses on the roman alphabet by conducting a leadership analysis set during the end of the late Republic. The second case study focuses on the impact of the printing press by conducting a leadership analysis of the Estates-General in 1789. The third and final case study focuses on the impact of the internet by conducting a leadership analysis of the BalanceTonPorc.
